What is a Chemical Peel and What are the Benefits?
Chemical peels cause intentional damage to the epidermis and/or dermis with the goal of stimulating new tissue to improve skin texture and tone.
Chemical peels are usually performed on the face, but may also be used on the neck, décolleté, back and hands. They improve skin texture and firmness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne-prone skin and reduce pore size appearance.
Initially after the treatment, the skin will be tender and more sensitive to sun as the epidermis renews itself. Usually 3-5 days after the treatment, fresh new skin will develop after the peeling has run its course. Your new skin may feel tight and warm or may look somewhat red immediately after a treatment. Recovery time varies slightly, and skin might be temporarily lighter or darker than normal, depending on the patient. Not all patients will notice skin peeling.
